Organizational scholarships from clubs are a great way to help you obtain the funding you need to further your college education. Around the country there are many clubs and organizations that offer club scholarships from organizations to members of that club or to children or grandchildren of club members.

Radio Club of America

The Radio Club of America sponsors several club scholarship programs specifically targeted towards the electronics sector. These awards include club college scholarships through the following universities: Montclair State University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Virginia Tech, Capital College, Cooper Union, Polytechnic University, University of Cincinnati, Steven Institute of Technology, Metropolitan State College of Denver and the University of Texas at Austin. The amount of the club scholarship varies according to campus.

Eastern Star Organizational Scholarships

The Order of the Eastern Star offers club scholarships annual to a high school senior who demonstrates qualities that are beneficial to their local community. One of the most important eligibility qualities for candidates of this scholarship is moral standing. Unlike organizational scholarships offered from many other clubs, what is unique about this scholarship opportunity is that the winning student need not be associated with the Eastern Star.

Applicants with an Eastern Star association will certainly be considered as a scholarship recipient; however, all graduating high school seniors will still be considered eligible to apply. Scholarship amounts vary between $250 and $500 to assist with tuition as well as books and other expenses. Awards vary from one chapter to another. Applications are typically due by the end of the year. Applicants must typically meet certain academic criteria to be eligible for this club scholarship. Financial need may also play a role in the decision making process.

Optimist Club Scholarships

The Optimist International club sponsors scholarships each year in a variety of categories. All contests are sponsored through local Optimist Club branches. The Essay contest typically has a different topic each year and is offered for students under the age of 18. Applications should be made by early February.

The club scholarship for this contest includes a plaque and $2,500 college scholarship. The Oratorical scholarship contest is also based on a different theme or topic each year. This contest is available for students under the age of 18. Applications should be made by late March. The award includes a plaque and two $2,500 club scholarships on the district level. The Optimist Club also sponsors a communication contest specifically for the deaf and hard of hearing. This club organizational scholarship includes a plaque and $2,500 monetary award for the first place winner.

The Boys and Girls Club of America

The Boys and Girls Club of America sponsors a Youth of the Year program that includes a club scholarship contest. This award is the highest offered by the club. The winner of the award is a youth who has overcome tremendous odds while also demonstrating superior accomplishments and character. Youth are recognized for their service to their community and club along with their contributions to their family and their academic performance.

Participants for this award are chosen on both local and state levels. Five regional winners advance to the national level, where they will compete for the national award in Washington, D.C. Each candidate for the award is interviewed separately by five judges. The final winner is selected on the basis of community service, scholastic achievement, leadership ability as well as consideration of emotional, social or physical obstacles that youth may have overcome. State winners are historically awarded a $1,000 scholarship while regional winners are awarded a $10,000 scholarship. The National Youth of the Year winner will win a club scholarship that totals $50,000.
